Working in collaboration with local Artist Group Ce/ART ,work is under way in the Art Department to create a collaborative visual art event that will take place in September 2018 with a formal exhibition venue for CeA/R/T and the Stables Gallery opening to the public for a night where insights into both the "in progress/ working nature " and the Exhibited work phase of Art Students work from St Josephs will be experienced.... heavy emphasis will be on the new leaving cert course which this year for the first time embodies project work where process links with product and" development " of work is of significant importance.
Following on from previous such collaborations with LSAD ,and the local Community/Tulla Courthouse and the Stables Studios an educational and fun event is envisaged......

Wonderful scenes at St Joseph’s this morning as 53 students and staff cycled to Doolin overnighted on the Aran Islands and cycled back as part of thier Gaisce challenge. Well done to all involved.
Last week, a Senior Cyber Security Engineer from the new Jaguar-Landrover company in Shannon visited our Transition Year students. The aim of the visit was to promote and explore opportunities in the Mid-West region to train and to work in the Technology sector.
The students had the opportunity to learn about the wide range of roles that the company are recruiting for in Shannon (recruiting for 300 roles, many graduate positions).
The car we "test drove" has a value of 80,000 euro.
Congratulations to two of our First Year students, Reuben Liddy and Kate Sheehan who got 2nd and 3rd place in the Junior All Ireland maths competition final held in St. Flannan’s College on Friday. St Joseph’s had 8 students in the final! Well done all!
After a 6 week journey of trials and tribulations, our 3rd year Science students have successfully sealed the envelopes on their Science Coursework B projects. Over the course of 2 months, they embarked on a journey of discovery (along with some blood, sweat and tears) completing two significant projects that account for 25% of their overall result of their Science grade.
The project titles selected were:
Chemistry: Investigate the effects of changing the voltage and the concentration of sulfuric acid on the rate of production of Hydrogen gas during the electrolysis of water.
Physics: Investigate the effects of changing the hair colour and hair treatments on the tensile strength of hair taken from the human head.
This occasion signifies the end of an era for Junior Cert Science as the curtains have closed for the final time on Coursework B projects. From this year forward, 2nd and 3rd year Science students will embark on investigation-centered classroom-based assessments that aim to instill a love of Science and self-discovery for our students.
Watch this space for some examples in the coming weeks of the challenging research questions that our Second Year students have decided to explore between April 24th and May
In its 75th anniversary, the Central Bank of Ireland invited schools across the country to take part in a national art competition. Part of the Central Bank’s role is to issue banknotes and coins on behalf of the Minister for Finance. In this, their anniversary year, the Central Bank of Ireland National Art Competition invited students of all ages to take on the role of coin designers.
Irish collector coins celebrate figures of national importance and commemorate significant events in Irish history. In keeping with this tradition, our art competition asked students to take inspiration from significant people and events from the past 75 years and design their own €2 coin.
They had a phenomenal response and the judges were impressed by the high-calibre of entries.
Congratulations to Sophie Cronin 2nd year St Josephs Tulla
