Our Leaving Cert students are preparing for their 24-hour charity fast sleep-over on,
Wednesday 19th December.
This year all donations are for Sr. Angela's Kenya Fund.
Please support us when you see us out collecting!
To officially mark the beginning of the Christmas Season in St.Josephs, Fr Brendan Quinlivan, Fr. Brendan Lawlor and Sr. Bosco joined First Years, Transition Years and staff in a Christmas Prayer Service.
We lit a candle of remembrance to commemorate past students Jack Lynch and Scarlett Donnellan Feeley and hung 2 special decorations on our Christmas tree in their memory. After we switched on the lights, we lifted our spirits with a rapturous round of "Jingle all the way"!
Congratulations to our students and staff who raised €1300 during our recent Wellness Week. The funds raised will be divided between between our two chosen Mental Health awareness charities - Elevate and Grow Mental Health.
A picture of our young St. Vincent de Paul group who traveled to Dublin for the launch of the St. Vincent de Paul Christmas appeal with Ryan Tubridy. The group rewrote the Picture This song "Take my hand" to be about homelessness and performed live to a large audience at the launch.
Students in at St. Joseph's undertook a number of fun activities for Science Week recently. Pictured below are First Year students, who designed a structure that was strong and portable enough to "fly" from the first floor (height 6 m) with an egg as the pilot! Second Years constructed an edible model of DNA (yum!) and Transition Years went to UL to attend a Science Extraordinaire magic show.
Cork Pops Orchestra Trip - ‘A World of Rhythm’.
St. Joseph’s First, Second Year and LCA classes visited the Cork Pops Orchestra in University of Limerick Concert Hall on Friday, 9th November. Evelyn Grant was the conductor and, frankly, she did an amazing job. She also interacted with the audience, introducing the various pieces and describing the special features of every instrument. There was an array of instruments from all orchestral families, including string, woodwind and brass.
The concert was aptly titled ‘A World of Rhythm’ as there was a particular focus on percussion instruments. The regular tuned and untuned percussion instruments were present, along with a few surprises. Pieces included the Anvil Chorus by Verdi which was played by hammers hitting car break discs. Balero by Ravel featured a snare drum and Typewriter by Anderson featured a typewriter, guiro and bell.
There were two special guest musicians, Phoebe Dipple and DJ Dashka. Phoebe played Snow White in the pantomime in Cork and DJ Dashka presents a show on Spin South West. He showed us his skills on his sound sampler.
Experiencing this show definitely broadened our knowledge of the orchestra. We learned that the percussion musicians didn’t stay in one place for the performance, as they needed to move around quite a lot during the show to play a variety of instruments. In conclusion, the concert was a very enjoyable experience and we would love to go again next year!

Clare Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships Success for St. Joseph’s
St. Joseph’s students from 1st Year to 6th Year took part in the Clare Secondary Schools’ Cross Country Championships last Thursday November 15th. The event was held in the Lee’s Road Complex in Ennis on a very wet, challenging day for our competing athletes.
Our minor girls were first to represent St. Joseph’s – Sophie Conway, Polly Donnellan, Saoirse Donnellan, Áine Lenihan and Helena Downes put in fantastic performances to come third in the team event. Next to compete were our minor boys – with a very successful second place victory, winning silver medals for the team. Dannan Fox and Issac O’Sullivan finished very strongly, followed closely by Jake Slattery, Denis Whelan and Michael Moran. Our junior girls Claire Murphy, Saoirse Keogh, Chelsea Canny, Sarah Manley, Áine Browne and Anna Doyle were up next – again, great performances from these girls gained second place in the team event.
Fantastic performances from our junior boys led to Tulla’s next team medal – Dara Fitzgerald, Darragh Moroney finished strongly, followed by Eoghan Daly and Eoghan McMahon. The other junior boys running were Davy Hassett, Sean Walsh, Conor O’Donnell, Colin Hogan and Eoin McNamara.
Éabha McInerney and Isabel O’Connell competed in the Intermediate girls race and performed very well. Our intermediate boys of Darragh Keogh, Donal Sheedy, Fionn Hickey, Fiachra Hale, Eanna Culloo, David McInerney,Neil Callaghan, Marc Norte, Dylan Moone, Michael Ryan, Aaron Shanahan, Diarmuid Molloy and Lucas Donlon just missed out on a team medal.
The last event of the day was the senior boys race – tremendous running from Padraig Cahill, Fintan Caulfield, Stephen Donnellan and Jonah Bartelink ensured a team gold medal for St. Joseph’s. We are so proud of all of our athletes as their great performances led to St. Joseph’s taking first place in the Best Overall School for the “Tully Cup” 2019, for the third year in a row. Well done to all! Special thanks also to Shane and Stephen for organising all of our teams on the day.
We are now looking forward to the North Munster Schools’ Competition to be held in Pallaskenry in January.
