Cullaun Sailing Club Spring Regatta

Luke and Paddy

Congratulations to Paddy Donlon and Luke O Sullivan who came second in the Cullaun Junior Sailing regatta last Sunday on Cullaun Lake.  There were a total of twenty boats out and there were 4 races on the day.  Paddy was on the helm for two races while Luke  crewed and then they swapped over for the last two races. Although they were sailing for the Junior Regatta their scores actually placed them ahead of some of the adults so well done to the two of them

Day one were held in Castleisland, Co. Kerry on May 6th. There were 3 athletes in action representing St. Josephs Secondary School, Tulla.
First into action was Sean Murphy who comfortably won his heat and semi-final in the Junior Boys (U15) 100m, Sean finished 8th in the final after a determined run, which saw him in contention for a medal after 30m, but he faded in the 2nd half a race after picking up a slight foot injury during the race.
Next up was Austin McInerney, who competed in the Intermediate (U17) Boys Discus. Austin who only recently started to throw the discus, was competing for the first time in this event. Despite his lack of experience, he battled well against a big field of throwers to win a bronze medal with his final throw of 20.64m.

He went on to win a silver in the Junior Boys Discus with a throw of 30.32m after leading going into the last round of throws.
