It has been a busy few weeks for SJT students in their Science classes. We were delighted to launch a new STEM GiftEd Programme with Beckham and Coulter Diagnostics. The aim of the programme is to encourage young female students to consider opting for science, maths and technology courses at senior cycle and third level.

Recently,  a group of 1st and 2nd year students had the opportunity to experience stage one of the programme which consisted of a guided tour around the laboratories and grounds of Beckham and Coulter (pictured below).

The girls witnessed first hand how the company manufacture a unique range of diagnostic solutions which help medical professionals assess, diagnose and monitor conditions such as cardiac disease, metabolic functions, infectious diseases, blood disorders, cancer and many more.

A very special thank you to Karen Kelly (Senior Manager and Head of HR BCll),  Orlaith Lawler (Senior Manager/Leader of BCll) and all the staff in Beckham and Coulter for a most enjoyable day.

Also pictured below is a snapshot of active learning examples from our Junior Cycle Science classes from First Year (sheep heart dissections) and Second Year with their 3D Atom projects.

Well done to all the students involved!
