In its 75th anniversary, the Central Bank of Ireland invited schools across the country to take part in a national art competition. Part of the Central Bank’s role is to issue banknotes and coins on behalf of the Minister for Finance. In this, their anniversary year, the Central Bank of Ireland National Art Competition invited students of all ages to take on the role of coin designers.

Irish collector coins celebrate figures of national importance and commemorate significant events in Irish history. In keeping with this tradition, our art competition asked students to take inspiration from significant people and events from the past 75 years and design their own €2 coin.

They had a phenomenal response and the judges were impressed by the high-calibre of entries.
Congratulations to Sophie Cronin 2nd year St Josephs Tulla
