On Thursday and Friday the 6th and 7th of November, 57 of our leaving Cert students attended a two day retreat in Esker Co Galway. This retreat is a long tradition in St Joseph’s Secondary school, taking place for over 20 years. The retreat offers young people the opportunity to come away together to a quiet place, to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Esker, to have fun, and activities and reflective time together. It offers them the time and opportunity to celebrate together their own humanity and affirm their dignity and self-worth, and to bond more with each other. It offers them a space to voice their questions, doubts and struggles, in a safe place where they are listened to and the space and time to experience themselves and others with truth and real joy.

We hope this reflection time will help our Leaving Cert students to focus on the difficult task ahead in the coming year but also have helped them by providing so lifelong coping skills.

Thanks to the retreat team and also the teachers who organized and went on the retreat-Ms Hogan, Mr Spelman and Ms Fitzgerald.
